XR Wandsworth have just launched a new campaign:

WAKE UP WANDSWORTH

We recognise Wandsworth Council’s positive actions in relation to the climate and ecological emergency since May 2022.

But they do not remotely match the urgency of the crisis. We face a public health emergency from air pollution, aggravated by too few green spaces, all affecting poorer communities disproportionately.

Climate action can improve all this! The Council must do MORE and FASTER.

Local elections will take place in May 2026. Before then Extinction Rebellion Wandsworth demands that Wandsworth Council takes measures to:

  1. IMPROVE AIR QUALITY by reducing emissions from polluting vehicles.
  2. MAKE WANDSWORTH GREENER with biodiversity corridors and green, unpaved front gardens.
  3. PLAN FOR CLIMATE EMERGENCY EVENTS   Climate risks require rapid response and preparation.

Find out more about the campaign and about our full demands here.

OUR DEMANDS

1  TELL THE TRUTH

All institutions must communicate the danger we are in. We must be clear about the extreme cascading risks humanity now faces, the injustice this represents, its historic roots, and the urgent need for rapid political, social and economic change.

2  ACT NOW

Every part of society must act now to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025 and begin protecting and repairing nature immediately. The whole of society must move into a new precautionary paradigm, where life is sacred and all are in service to ensuring its future.

3  BE THE CHANGE

We demand a culture of participation, fairness and transparency. Only the common sense of citizens will help us navigate the challenging decisions ahead. Citizens’ Assemblies are the tool we need to establish the policies for climate and ecological justice.

4  CLIMATE JUSTICE

We demand a just transition to a regenerative society, prioritising the needs and voices of the most vulnerable and those on the environmental frontline, redressing past and present global inequalities caused by colonial, race, gender, social and class exploitation and discrimination; and all species’ right to life.
