The next XR Wandsworth book club meeting will discuss 'Regenesis' by George Monbiot.
This is a readable and passionate review of our global food systems. It ranges from the joy of an orchard to the complex socioeconomics and global politics of food. We know George Monbiot is never boring!  Please join us at the Four Thieves pub 6.30 - 8pm to talk about the book and the issues it raises. You will be sure of good company and a great discussion - all welcome!

Our fortnightly planning meetings are a good way to meet others from the Wandsworth group and get involved in planning future events. If you're new and prefer just to take a back seat and observe for a bit, that's fine. All welcome!

Gareth James will talk about the work of Wild Clapham, an independent charity working with Lambeth Council and other stakeholder groups to improve the ecology and biodiversity of Clapham Common. Wild Clapham’s vision for the Common is to improve sustainable habitat for wildlife through the creation of scrubland, wildflower meadows, woodland and wetland. Gareth will also talk about his journey on how to work effectively with local authorities and organise community groups to help with this work.

The talk is free but please register if you'd like to come. All welcome!

This Tuesday, instead of having our usual online Zoom planning session, we’ll be meeting in the Brewer's Inn, 147 East Hill from 7.00. The Brewers Inn is just opposite the entrance to Wandsworth Town Hall where a number of us will be joining the lobby of Wandsworth Council’s Pensions Committee by the local Palestine Support Campaign. It seems there is a significant overlap in investments with companies which are also complicit in funding fossil fuels. The lobby runs from 6.15 to 7.00. Hope to see you there! All welcome!

The sea ice in the Arctic plays a key role in regulating global climate. Unfortunately, the Arctic is warming much faster than elsewhere on earth, causing sea ice to melt. Andrea Ceccolini, co-CEO of Real Ice, a UK start-up researching the preservation of Arctic sea ice, will talk about Real Ice’s work on Ice Thickening, which encourages the natural process of Arctic sea ice generation.

Please come to our next book group meeting. We try to get contrast in our reading and this time we've gone for a memoir, Soundings by Doreen Cunningham, in which a human family finds powerful connections with a pod of migrating whales. As always we'll be discussing our feelings about the book then widening out to think about its message and effectiveness. We'll probably be building upon earlier conversations about our place within the natural world!

Guaranteed a good discussion and a fun evening. Do join us - all welcome!

This event is particularly aimed at young people, although older people are welcome as well.

A screening of the film Can I Live?, is taking place at the Ransom Pentecostal AME Zion Church in Mallinson Road.

Can I Live? is a powerful story addressing the climate crisis performed by Fehinti Balogun, incorporating spoken word, rap, music, theatre, animation and facts. Fehinti draws the connections with the environmental crisis and the struggle for social justice.

The film will be followed by a time for discussion and for some food.
